Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has signed the renewal of the Canadian Geomatics Accord for 2025–2030 with the Government of British Columbia as co-chairs and first official signatories. The renewed Accord will continue to enable federal-provincial-territorial (FPT) collaboration on geospatial information, according to an announcement from NRCan.
This renewal builds on a long history of FPT successes under the Canadian Council on Geomatics (CCOG) and includes collaboration toward:
- delivering core geospatial data for Canada’s land, water and infrastructure that leverages the power of AI and the efficiencies of a “buy once, use many times” approach
- promoting standards that ensure data integration for core services, innovation and efficiencies in areas such as safe navigation, geoscience, natural hazard mitigation, infrastructure planning, disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation
The renewed Accord will be signed by other provinces and territories in the coming months. Under this framework for collaboration, CCOG members will continue to work together to ensure geospatial data provides key services and benefits for Canadians.
