Nelson, BC — January 2026 — The GoGeomatics Nelson networking group is set to kick off the new year with a community-focused meetup on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, proudly sponsored by Nupqu Resource Limited Partnership, a 100% Indigenous-owned professional land and resource management company.
The event will take place at Torchlight Brewing from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm PT, bringing together GIS, geomatics, surveying, and mapping professionals from across the Kootenay region for an evening of networking, knowledge-sharing, and friendly competition.
Founded in 2009 and owned by all member communities of the Ktunaxa Nation, Nupqu Resource Limited Partnership delivers land and resource management services across southern British Columbia and beyond. Their work spans forestry, environmental assessment and monitoring, reclamation and remediation, archaeology and cultural resource management, GIS and drone-based mapping, native plant nursery operations, and health and safety services. Named after the Ktunaxa word for black bear, Nupqu represents strength, stewardship, and leadership within the ʔamakʔis Ktunaxa (Ktunaxa land).
As part of the evening’s programming, participants will take part in GIS- and surveying-themed trivia, designed to be both fun and challenging. Prizes will be awarded to the top team, with trivia winners receiving gift cards from Valhalla Pure Outfitters, a Canadian outdoor retailer founded in British Columbia’s Kootenay region. A big thank you as well to Valhalla Pure Outfitters for contributing prizes to the trivia night.
From Nupqu’s perspective, sponsoring the meetup is about supporting the local geomatics and GIS community, recognizing the importance of geospatial data in land and resource decision-making, and encouraging knowledge-sharing and professional growth within the industry.
