Ontario Studies Feasibility of New National Energy Pipeline

Toronto, Ontario October 30, 2025 — The Government of Ontario has announced a new feasibility study to explore the creation of a national East-West energy corridor and pipeline network, a project aimed at strengthening Canada’s energy independence, creating jobs, and improving domestic and international market access for Canadian energy.

Backed by Ontario, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, the proposed corridor would transport oil and gas from Western Canada to refineries in Southern Ontario and to new port developments on James Bay, Hudson Bay, and the Great Lakes—built entirely within Canada using Canadian steel.

“This nation-building pipeline and energy corridor will unite our country and help unlock new markets for Canada’s energy resources,” said Premier Doug Ford. “It will reduce dependence on foreign imports while creating jobs and opportunities for Canadian workers from coast to coast.”

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe voiced strong support, highlighting the project’s role in responsible growth and energy security.

The feasibility study, expected to conclude in 2026, will examine corridor routes, project costs, Indigenous participation, and complementary development opportunities such as critical minerals, all-season roads, and grid upgrades.

Ontario pledged to consult Indigenous communities and advance economic reconciliation through equity participation.

The study will be led by a consortium including GHD Limited, Ernst & Young LLP (EY Canada), Mokwateh, AtkinsRéalis, Wood PLC, and Turner & Townsend Limited, with Infrastructure Ontario as commercial advisor.

“This transformative project will connect provinces, unlock new export markets, and ensure Ontario’s homes and businesses are powered by secure, Canadian-made energy,” said Todd McCarthy, Acting Minister of Infrastructure.
