Why are GoGeomatics Back to School Socials Important? A message from our local group leaders
The GoGeomatics Back to School Socials have been running since 2014, and they are finally back after the pandemic! These events started in Ottawa and made their way across Canada. Without our wonderful group leaders, none of these events would’ve possible. We love our volunteers! Their dedication has been an inspiration for all us; from organizing the events to keeping their local Geospatial community engaged. Here’s what our group leaders had to say about their experiences with organizing our networking events:
“GIS and Geomatics are incredibly diverse industries with countless areas of specialization. Face to face meetups like the Back to School events are the best way for all geo-professionals, from the most recent students to the most seasoned veterans, to improve their breadth of knowledge and meet colleagues that they’d otherwise never. ” – David Solari
“The BTSS are a great way to catch up on how other folks in the community are using the power of location intelligence to help their respective organizations solve business problems. I like to see old friends, welcome new folks in the geospatial scene in Regina.” – James Ashton
“I think that the BTSS are the largest opportunity for GoGeomatics each year to get together people in geomatics. They connect working professionals, academics, and students, and help to forge valuable career and professional development connections. Keeping in touch is important for maintaining these networks and is necessary to stay connected, so having these events repeat every year enables the social momentum to continue.” – Dianne Gray
Jonathan Murphy, the founder and Managing Director of GoGeomatics Canada created these events with the community. The goal of these events is strengthening and empowering our Canadian geospatial ecosystem.
“Opportunities for us in the geospatial community to come together, especially now after the lockdowns, are important. People can make connections, get support, share stories, find new hires, and get hired at these free networking events. None of this would be possible without the support of the community in the form of local leaders giving of their time and passion for all things geo! The networking program is grassroots initiative that have grown over the last ten years and I see them continuing to do so. .” – Jon Murphy
GoGeomatics Back to School Socials are back beginning this September! Join us and the Canadian geospatial community as we welcome new and returning students to our sector. You can still RVSP to your local event, we would love to see you mingle and connect with other young professionals!
