Speaker: Nicholas Kellett, Founder and CEO of Deploy Solutions

Nick is founder and CEO of proudly Canadian company Deploy Solutions and the lead organizer of the annual Space Apps Ottawa hackathon. He is a programmer, leader, speaker, blogger and instructor with over 20 years of professional software development experience and a passion for space.

At GeoIgnite 2020, Nick began his talk by describing emerging trends in software development, as well as discussing changes in the space industry including the rising tide of satellite launches and data. Nick also discussed the emergence of space apps hackathons — public events which gather creative problems solvers and programmers to find ways to effectively use this data.

With the scene set, Nick then introduced “space apps”, innovative software applications which use this growing body of available space data to achieve business goals and provide valuable insights. He compared these to traditional software application development and identified important differences.

Nick concluded his talk by summarizing the challenges of developing such space apps and how Deploy Solutions is meeting these challenges with its Space Apps Software Factory approach —designed to rapidly produce turn-key solutions meet business needs and put space data in the hands of end-users.
