One of the highlights of LidarCANEX 2025 is a talk by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan): “Lidar Data Acquisitions in Support of Adaptation to Flooding in Canada”.
Flooding is Canada’s most costly natural disaster in terms of property damage, yet many communities lack updated flood hazard maps. This presentation will explore how lidar data is being used to address this critical challenge. Over the past four years, NRCan has funded 59 lidar projects, covering 253,000 km², to support flood modeling, hazard mapping, and decision-making. Learn how these initiatives are advancing flood resilience strategies across the country and contributing to the National Elevation Data Strategy.
