Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) Returns to GoGeomatics Expo 2025 as Gold Sponsor

GoGeomatics is excited to announce that the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) is once again joining the GoGeomatics Expo 2025 as a Gold Sponsor. A regular supporter of the Expo, SAIT has demonstrated its commitment to Canada’s geomatics sector through enthusiastic participation from both students and faculty year after year.

This year, the Expo, considered Canada’s premier national geospatial event, will take place November 3-5, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta. The event brings together professionals, educators, students, and innovators from across the geomatics, geospatial, and location technology sectors for three days of knowledge sharing, networking, and collaboration. With a program featuring keynotes, technical sessions, panels, and Canada’s largest geospatial tradeshow floor, the Expo is the central meeting place for the industry.

As a Gold Sponsor, SAIT will showcase its leadership in education and workforce development, highlighting how its action-based learning, solution-focused research, and industry partnerships are shaping the next generation of geospatial and surveying professionals.

The GoGeomatics Expo provides a place for the geomatics community to come together and share knowledge, ideas, and mentorship. The support that GoGeomatics provides to engaging students in the community is another way for our students to learn. The expo provides a platform for our students to showcase what they have learned in class, provide professional development for the instructors, and collaborate with the industry on new, exciting projects and new topics to teach the future leaders of geomatics,” said Carina Butterworth, Instructor, Geomatics Engineering Technology, School of Construction.

SAIT at the Expo

SAIT’s Geomatics Engineering Technology program is proud to sponsor the GoGeomatics Expo and take part in activities throughout the week. Each year, students volunteer at the Expo, giving them valuable opportunities to connect with industry professionals. Feedback from past participants highlights how much they enjoyed learning more about the geomatics field, meeting leaders in the industry, and building confidence through these conversations. For many, it’s also a chance to develop essential soft skills in engaging with professionals. Students will also be helping at the SAIT booth, where the public can learn more about the program and how to apply.

This year, SAIT faculty are adding new dimensions to their participation. Carina Butterworth will deliver two main-stage presentations: “The State of Geomatics Education and Recruitment” and “Reality Capture & Navigating the Ethical AI World.” Meanwhile, Jesse Vanneste, Dr. Kent Jones, and Lance Hummel will lead open classes designed for Expo attendees and students alike, covering topics such as Geodesy, Control Surveys, Traversing, and Remote Sensing field methods. First-year students will also be visible across the Expo floor, working on Lance Hummel’s traversing lab — an interactive activity that often sparks conversations with industry members as they observe and engage with students in action.

“We hope that all the attendees find ways to engage with the students and ask them questions. The students will have questions to ask the industry members too. The community building that enhances the student’s excitement about the industry is invaluable to all educational institutions and the upcoming workforce,” added Butterworth.
