In conjunction with the education committee of The Royal Canadian Geographical Society, a group of RCGS fellows, led by Peggy March – 2019 Recipient of the Canadian Geospatial Community Leadership Award, are bringing together diverse perspectives and leadership to discuss issues relating to geographic literacy, education, space and earth observation.

Geospatial Literacy for Space, Earth Observation

In our globally interconnected world, it is more important than ever for people to understand the world around them. This summit, sponsored by Canadian Geographic Education and the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, examines the critical importance of geotechnologies and geospatial literacy – an educational essential every bit as important as the 3 Rs of “reading, writing and ‘rithmetic” – and how both have fundamentally altered the way we see our world and how we interact with it. The goal is to discuss, develop and champion the cause of geospatial literacy in education, in the workplace, and in society and to find ways that that educators, geographers, geospatial professionals, and others can work collaboratively to develop a common vision for a geospatially literate society.
