Editors & Writers Group
Do you have something to share with the Canadian GoGeomatics community? We are over 6,000+ subscribers strong, making us one of the largest geomatics groups in Canada. You can join our Editors & Writers group to work collaboratively on articles or you can submit an article as a one-off guest contributor.
Submitting an Article: How does being a solo contributor work?
You might have only one article you want to submit to GoGeomatics. That’s great! Contributors don’t have to join the Editors & Writers Group. As a solo contributor, you will receive a login to the GoGeomatics Canada WordPress website. Here, you will be allowed to post content as drafts, upload pictures into your posts via our media gallery, and add meta tags to your content. This is great option if you just have one or two articles you want to write.
You don’t know what to write about? Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Review a geomatics event.
- Talk about your views on the Canadian geomatics industry.
- Talk about a piece of software you’ve used.
- Share your unique perspective on geomatics with an editorial.
- Describe a unique project that you worked.
Join the GoGeomatics Editors & Writers Group
The Editors and Writers group is the beating heart of our magazine. With over 1,500 published articles we are the largest and most popular community platform for news and events in our sector. The Editors and Writers group keeps the interesting geospatial stories and content flowing on the site. With anywhere from 15-25 members at any given time, the group writes and edits articles of their choosing on diverse topics. The group meets virtually once a month for around an hour.
You should have at least 3-4 hours a month to spare and be able to commit to the role for at least 3 months (hopefully longer). We anticipate that your level of engagement will vary due to individual circumstances; be reassured that our work ethic is flexible and responsive to your situation!
You must have strong English language skills, as you will need to assist in editing material for the website.
Career Benefits of Volunteering:
Many of our editors and former writers have built on their experience working with us to enhance or jump-start their careers. For new graduates and young professionals it’s a great way to show the community you know your stuff and are passionate about your chosen profession. For seasoned professionals it’s a great way to raise your profile in the sector and increase your chances of being recognized.
Everything is decentralized and we use online tools to collaborate and manage our activities. As an editor you work at your own pace on your schedule to produce article and geospatial stories that interest you.
