EnvisionGeomatics 2014 – Hackathon

A new edition of the EnvisionGEOMATICS symposium will take place this upcoming November 12 and 13 2014 at the Palais des congrès de Gatineau. This year, the organizing committee chose to innovate by selecting the Gatineau/Ottawa region to hold the event.

What is a EnvisionGEOMATICS?

In addition to the 30 exhibitors and 50 speaker expected this year, you will have the opportunity to witness technological showcases, listen to keynote speakers, get involved in technical workshops. It will also be an opportunity to network with more than 250 other participants and turn those informal chats into business opportunities.

Here are a few highlights from the 2012 edition:

  • The combination of 3 major events in Quebec (OSGeo-qc, AGMQ and VisionGÉOMATIQUE) in Saguenay-Lac-Saint Jean;
  • The Vectora awards ceremony
  • 315 attendees, with more than 65 % coming from outside Saguenay-Lac-Saint Jean
  • National and and international visibility
  • 60 presentations over 2 days
  • 36 exhibition booths
  • 3 international keynote speakers

A successful partnership:

The Gatineau/Ottawa region was chosen in order to give the players in the area the opportunity to be part of this 4th edition, and increase visibility. Once again, they are proud to announce that OSGeo-qc join forces with this symposium in order to make it a major event. In addition, OSGeo Ottawa and LocationTech will partner up with the event with the ambition to rally the English-speaking community, very involved in the Open Source world. In order to know the partnership options and fees, read the details below or visit www.visiongeomatique.com.

A networking event:

New this year, there will be a networking night at the micro-brewery les Brasseurs Du Temps. This event will also be the opportunity to discover regional products in a venue famous for its beers and its charm. On the menu: local food and local beer-tasting, networking, and music, all in a laid back atmosphere.

A hackathon:

In addition to this event, the organization of a hackathon is being considered. Very much like the successful Geohack that was held in Montreal in 2013, the concept is quite simple: organizations/companies providing hackers with challenges pertaining to geographic data. This a tremendous opportunity for organizations that would like to test some ideas and see how they can be implemented by a team of motivated people. It is also a good opportunity for individuals to demonstrate their skills. In order to ensure a good number of hackers, the organization offering the challenge will be asked to offer a financial contribution that would be distributed to the hackers.

There are some spots left for conferences in the Open Source room. For more information about the event and to join the list of speakers in the Open Source room, check out www.visiongeomatique.com. For those who have ideas for the hackathon, contact Fabien Ancelin by email or Twitter.
