Canada Maps & Posters Program: A Call to Showcase Your Best Work at the 2024 National Geomatics Expo
Canada! Send us your maps and posters.
At GoGeomatics, we believe in the power of collaboration and community. It’s GeoIgnite, Canada’s national geomatics leadership conference, got started, and it’s why we continue to push initiatives like the Canada Maps & Posters Program.
This year, along with our partners the Canadian Cartographic Association (CCA) and the International Map Industry Association (IMIA), we have a new and expanded program. Showcase your work. Send us your posters and maps.
Why the Canada Maps & Posters Program Matters
In the increasingly digital world, it’s easy to forget the power of a well-crafted map or poster. These aren’t just tools—they’re works of art that convey complex geospatial data in a way that’s accessible and engaging. Whether it’s a beautifully designed GIS project or an intricate survey map, environmental study, beautiful piece of cartography blending art and science these visuals play a crucial role in our sector. Before we had our smartphones we had our posters.
The Canada Maps & Posters Program is more than just an exhibition; it’s a celebration of the best work being done across our sector. From students and educators to industry professionals and government departments at all levels, this program is open to everyone.
The goal is simple: to highlight the creativity and expertise within our community while promoting geographic literacy and the importance of geomatics in Canada.
Loek Pascaud, MSC student University of Sherbrooke dept of Geomatics sent me a supportive message of encouragement after my email to our college and university contacts.
…the Maps and Poster Gallery program is a valuable platform highlighting diversity and innovation within our geomatics community. It provides an excellent opportunity for students and researchers to showcase their work, connect with industry professionals, and contribute to the broader Canadian geospatial dialogue. –Loek Pascaud
Get Involved: No Cost to Participate
One of the things I’m most proud of is that participation in the Canada Maps & Posters Program is completely free. We’re inviting you to submit up to four posters or maps—whether they’re new or created in the last couple of years. This program is all about showcasing quality, so we’re looking for submissions that reflect the best of your work, regardless of the topic.
This initiative is a partnership with the Canadian Cartographic Association (CCA) and the International Map Industry Association (IMIA). We’ve designed it to be inclusive and accessible because we want to see a diverse range of contributions. After all, the more we share, the more we can learn from each other.
Why We Need Your Support
The Canada Maps & Posters Program is part of a larger effort to build a strong, interconnected geomatics community in Canada. By participating, you’re not just showcasing your work—you’re contributing to a national conversation about the value of geomatics. And for those interested in doing even more, we’re actively seeking sponsors to help us grow this program as a cornerstone of the National Geomatics Expo.
Sponsorship isn’t just about funding; it’s about supporting the future of our industry. By helping us expand the Canada Maps & Posters Program, you’re investing in geographic education and the broader geomatics sector. Together, we can elevate the profile of geomatics and ensure that it continues to thrive.
Join Us in Calgary
I don’t know how many posters and maps we’ll receive, but I’m committed to displaying every single one. The night before the expo, we’ll be hosting a pizza party to hang all the submissions—an informal, fun way to kick off what promises to be an inspiring event.
So, whether you’re submitting your work or coming to see what others have created, I hope you’ll join us in Calgary this October. Let’s make the Canada Maps & Posters Program a highlight of the 2024 National Geomatics Expo and, in the process, strengthen our entire community.
If you’re interested in participating or sponsoring, please reach out to us at info@gogeomatics.ca.
