Job Summary
Under supervision of the Information Management Coordinator, this position enters spatial and attribute data into the Corporate geographic information system.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Converts drawings and records from digital and paper sources into Corporate spatial databases.
- Analyses spatial information.
- Interprets, and applies to the preparation of a spatial databases, a variety of source documents, including manual and digital field survey notes, statistical records, existing plans, sketches, standard codes and standard procedural instructions.
- Automates the preparation, recording and presentation of information, using Autodesk, ESRI and related software.
- Responds to enquiries and provides information from the spatial database to staff and the public.
- Provides reproduction services from spatial databases, including digital plans, plotting and producing large photocopies.
- Maintains a current knowledge of the techniques and equipment used in related fields.
- Obtains information for various aspects of the work.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Requirements
- Graduation from a recognized two-year post-secondary drafting technology or GIS program.
- Two years’ related experience.
- Possession of, or eligibility for, Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologist and Technicians certification as an Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T.).
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Thorough knowledge of GIS concepts.
- Knowledge of engineering drafting terminology, practices, techniques and equipment, including AutoCAD and ArcGIS. Knowledge of SQL Server would be an asset.
- Knowledge of construction, engineering and survey techniques and practices.
- Knowledge of civic and departmental policies and regulations.
- Ability to interpret maps, plans, survey notes and other relevant data.
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to understand detailed plans and specifications.
- Ability to design and develop new concepts and procedures to improve methods of producing and presenting information.
- Ability to express ideas and concepts effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to work with groups and with minimal direct supervision.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Weekly Hours: 36.67
Salary Range: $66,859.52 to $73,723.92 CAD per annum (2023 rates)
