Yesterday I had the privilege of facilitating and working with the Alberta Geomatics Group (AGG) in Calgary on their Geomatics Education Symposium. The event was sponsored by TECTERRA and attended by an estimated 50 participants. The Geomatics Education Symposium was held to start a conversation between industry partners and educational institutions to ensure a healthy dialogue of challenges and successes. ThAlberta_Geomatics_Group_Logorough presentations, panel discussion and round table brainstorming, we gained insight into the status of the industry and how we can more effectively market the industry in the future. The result of this event will be a published paper on the conversations held. We will publish an article letting the community know when that paper is ready to be distributed. The day was a tremendous success. What I took away from the experience was that the community recognizes that our identity and ability to communicate the value of our sector are going to be paramount moving forward if we hope to build on our current successes.

GoGeomatics Canada thanks the AGG and TECTERRA for putting on such a great event and inviting me and GoGeomatics Canada to participate. I look forward to seeing many of you in Ottawa at the Canadian Geomatics Community Round Table Event in June.

After the Symposium, GoGeomatics and the AGG held a joint social to end the day at the Libertine pub. Scroll down to take a look at some photos of the night.

Unfortunately I didn’t have time to caption all the photos. I wanted to get them up quickly before I hop on a plane to Edmonton for our next social on Tuesday, May 27 at 6PM at the Canadian Brewhouse (click here for event info). If you are in a photo or know the names of some of the folks in the photos please drop us a note at [email protected] and we will start captioning them.
