GIS Technician

Cabin Resources Management Ltd. has built a foundation of experience and dedication to quality and innovative solutions in four main divisions: forestry, wildfire, heritage and geospatial. We are currently looking to add a GIS Technician to our company.

Responsibilities: 

As a GIS Technician you will be responsible for the following:

  • Capturing, converting, editing and maintaining spatial data for multi-phase timber
    development contracts.
  • Spatial and tabular data entry into government corporate databases and systems.
  • Interpreting and visualizing remote sensing data including, LiDAR, satellite and
    drone data.
  • Production of mapping products including; Recce Maps, Site Plans, Cruise Maps
    and Appraisal Maps.
  • Conducting spatial analysis in support of timber development such as MDWR
    analysis, ECA calculations and visual impact assessments.
  • Work with forestry planners to develop customized geospatial solutions and
    automate repetitive tasks.

What we are looking for: 

  • Degree or diploma in Geographic Information Systems or an equivalent combination
    of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years’ experience working on timber development contracts or with a forest
    licensee
  • Demonstrated experience editing, manipulating and interpreting GPS data in
    relation to forestry cut block development.
  • Understanding of spatial data standards and how to apply them to specific contracts.
  • Experience working in an LRM environment, including versioning.
  • Experience utilizing QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Web Applications.
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude, keeping informed on the latest geospatial
    technology and respective applications to the natural resource sector.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate with multiple team members
  • Demonstrated organizational skills related to data archiving, change tracking,
    structure, and other management standards.
  • Domain knowledge of forestry: understanding of forest management and forest
    ecology and the ability to interpret a forest policy and management guidance in
    spatial and quantitative analysis.
