About The Role

We are looking for an experienced GIS Analyst who can contribute to our team by developing, maintaining, and updating geospatial asset databases. Your role will involve supporting web-based mapping systems to ensure accessibility for all employees across the organization. Additionally, you’ll be responsible for creating clear and informative data visualizations tailored to various stakeholders. Your tasks will also include coordinating data activities and ensuring the accuracy of technical information.

What You Will be Doing: Maintain & Analyze GIS Data:

 

  • Develop, collect, maintain, and populate consistent corporate infrastructure asset data.
  • Implement data standards and assist with GIS database maintenance.
  • Conduct data assessments and gap analysis to identify areas for improvement.
  • Plan and implement strategies to fill gaps in data coverage.
  • Coordinate the collection, verification, validation, and assembly of data by GIS Technicians and others.
  • Develop templates, forms, and processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency in data entry.
  • Develop and maintain data in a framework designed to support decision making and regulatory reporting.

Assess GIS Needs of Other Departments:

 

  • Facilitate meetings with other departments to understand their GIS needs and requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather feedback and input on GIS projects and initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations on GIS solutions to meet departmental needs.
  • Communicate effectively with a wide variety of collaborative partners to ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives.

Maintain Intranet Mapping (GIS):

 

  • Maintain and author the corporate web-based GIS and content to ensure current information and normal system operation.
  • Develop applications, databases, and web functionality using various programming and scripting languages (MS SQL, Oracle PL/SQL, C#, Java, Python, ESRI Arcade).
  • Generate visual depictions of data through maps, applications, charts, and dashboards.
  • Respond to corporate departmental requests and external shareholders for GIS-related support.
  • Provide GIS or related support to office and operations staff through reports, mapping (web-based or hardcopy), and mobile applications.
  • Exchange information with utilities and other stakeholders on underground plant locations and GIS-related matters as required.

These responsibilities outline the principal functions of the position and serve as a guiding vision for the role’s impact and contribution.

About You: Required Qualifications:

 

  • Graduation from a Geographical Information Specialist Program or a three (3) year college diploma in Geomatics with an emphasis on Geographic Information Systems Technology.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in the analysis and development of spatial data and data structures in a Relational Database Management System preferably in an ORACLE® or MS SQL Server and within a Municipal environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in ESRI GIS software including but not limited to ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Desktop.
  • Experience developing and working with ArcGIS Enterprise or ArcGIS Online.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with SQL, database structures and competency in modern computer programming and scripting languages.
  • Prepared to enter into a separate confidentiality agreement for access to the corporate data repositories.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software programs and the Internet Information Services environment.
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s licence, Class “G”, with a clean driving record.

Nice to Have Qualifications:

 

  • Proficiency with Autodesk products, such as AutoCAD Map3d and AutoCAD Civil3d.
  • Experience using FME (Safe Software).
