Montreal Conference 2022 Expects Large International Crowd

From October 18 – 21, BIM and Digital Twin experts from the international community will come together in Montreal, Quebec, Canada for the first annual national conference hosted by buildingSMART and Groupe BIM du Quebec.

The Montreal Conference 2022 is made up of a national conference, “Enabling A National Digital Twin Ecosystem through openBIM and connected technologies,” and an international summit, “digital transformation to facilitate resilience in the built asset industry through international collaboration.”

Montreal Conference 2022 expects around 600 international experts to participate in October.

This first-time national conference (and first time since 2014 the international conference was held in North America) expects to welcome at least 600 participants from all over the world. The attendees will enjoy demonstrations, discussions, exhibitions, and conferences.

Topics to be discussed include: openBIM, emerging topics, harmonization of processes, approaches for information modelling, builts assets, digitalization, and national and international initiatives.

You can register, become a speaker, or download a sponsorship package on the website.

Open BIM has Advantages Over Closed BIM

Open BIM (Open Building Information Modelling) is an important initiative of buildingSMART.

The process is completely based on standard formats like IFC. Closed BIM uses proprietary formats.  Open BIM allows information to be used in easy, streamlined workflows with less errors.

Closed BIM has data stored in native formats, only accessible from the application that created the data.  Open BIM can easily export project files to other programs accurately and reliably.

Open BIM allows users to choose desired workflows and tools. ACCA software is one of the leaders in this technology, and will be an important part of BIM future. Already, ACCA BIM software allows shared information between users in real time throughout the entire process. It has integrated solutions and open standards for data exchange.

You can learn more about BIM on the ACCA software website.

New Testing Options Offered at Windsor’s VR Cave

Invest WindsorEssex recently announced it has added two fresh digital tracks to what its Automobility and Innovation Centre already offers.

One track is of Ottawa’s Area X.O, a track used for testing autonomous and connected vehicles. The second track is of the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel crossing. This track is believed to be the world’s first digital twin of an international crossing. University of Michigan’s Mcity test track already has a digital twin at this centre.

The tracks are being built after real-life tracks so testing can be done for the differences in each country, safely, in all weather conditions and year-round. Real tracks are unable to offer such testing.

Physical testing takes more time and money than digital testing. Companies can test ideas before they need to go to a physical track. Issues can be discovered and solved before the vehicle is on a real track.

The VR Cave was looking to attract 15 companies to use the tracks annually, and they already have 13. Companies are also showing interest in vision system technology testing.

Digital Twins and Metaverse are Key to Transforming Infrastructure

Digital Twins and the Metaverse combined will be the key to the future of infrastructure.

Digital Twins are invaluable when it comes to understanding and managing infrastructure. They find solutions between complex systems, create connections between the physical world and flowing data.

Digital Twins solve infrastructure problems to  improve, and save on, efficiency, maintenance, and operational costs.  They can also be used to develop strategies, identify trends, and provide quality of life and services to the public.

Together, digital twins and Metaverse can change the future of infrastructure.

Like every industry, there are challenges. For digital twins, one such challenge is  how to create shareable, cooperative data from different sources, for all to use. It is crucial to have the ability to collect and share data.

The Metaverse is a simulation of the real world. People can have real-time, immersive interactions. A collaboration of Metaverse and digital twins will allow the construction of smarter, more sustainable infrastructure. It will be a more productive, intuitive, and immersive 3D environment.

Together, digital twins and Metaverse will expand communications, experiences, innovation, shape standards, data sharing, and effective management of infrastructure.
