NavVis Presents SLAM Technology & the Future of Laser Scanning at Lidar CANEX 2023

Gaspar Lima, NavVis Senior Channel Manager Americas, joined Lidar 2023 in a livestream presentation on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, to present “SLAM Technology & the Future of Laser Scanning.”

SLAM, or Simultaneous Localization and Mapping, is an algorithm that fuses data to determine device trajectory during movement through assets. This means you build a map of the building that is being scanned. Accuracy depends on how well the SLAM algorithm tracks you as you move around and the accuracy of the sensors involved.

Lima discussed TLS data quality and NavVis SLAM quality, sharing bold examples. The data is often described as sharp, accurate, dense, beautiful, and crisp. He also elaborated on the “Era of Mobile Mapping,” leading the presentation to the revolutionary wearable, mobile mapping system, NavVis VLX 2nd. It has two multi-layer Lidar sensors combined with SLAM software. Lima also discussed NavVis’ workflow.

NavVis has a global distribution of its technology which includes data capture and data management with NavVis VLX and NavVis IVION Core (which is new). Cansel is the reseller of NavVis’ products in Canada and can arrange a demonstration if you wish to learn more.

Lima was eager to answer questions and share information during the Q&A.

A gracious thank you to NavVis for being a Gold Sponsor for Lidar CANEX 2023.
