Port Metro Vancouver Implements Webtech Wireless’ GPS Solution
Webtech Wireless Inc.(TSX:WEW), a leading provider of vehicle fleet location-based services (LBS) and telematics technology, today announced that Port Metro Vancouver selected Webtech Wireless to implement a GPS solution for the Port’s Smart Fleet Trucking Strategy previously announced in 2013.
The Port Metro Vancouver Smart Fleet Trucking Strategy is a three-year action plan to improve the efficiency and reliability of the container truck sector and reinforce the Port’s ongoing collaboration with supply chain partners to deliver supply chain excellence. Port Metro Vancouver selected the Webtech Wireless GPS solution to help reach efficiency goals including reduced wait times, decreased dispatch office call volumes, lowered vehicle idling times, and improved overall operational efficiency.
In 2012 and 2013, Port Metro Vancouver installed more than 1,000 Webtech Wireless GPS Locators in its Truck Licensing System (TLS) approved drayage trucks. An additional 1,000 Locators will be installed and added to the program by July 2014. The Webtech Wireless GPS Locators use satellite positioning and cellular communication to send real-time vehicle location data to dispatch offices, enabling greater insight into vehicle activity, routing, congestion, and idle times. The data collected helps fleet managers make operational enhancements and gives stakeholders visibility and transparency to fleet operations at Port Metro Vancouver.
“Millions of dollars of goods go through our port every single day. We are always looking for ways to improve efficiency and ensure our operations are conducted in the most sustainable fashion.” says Peter Xotta, Vice President, Planning & Operations for Port Metro Vancouver. “Implementing the GPS solution from Webtech Wireless will provide a complete, accurate and real-time base of data to help manage congestion and wait times at Port Metro Vancouver. It will also make Port Metro Vancouver the first to have all port-licensed trucks outfitted with GPS technology, providing the opportunity to transform the container trucking industry and make our port a world leader”.
“Webtech Wireless is thrilled to be partnering with the Port Metro Vancouver in the Smart Fleet Strategy. A leader in embracing technology to drive positive change, Port Metro Vancouver is the first of its kind in North America to implement the Truck Licensing System integrated with GPS,” says Scott Edmonds, President and CEO, Webtech Wireless. “With our innovative solution Port Metro Vancouver has achieved significant internal operational improvements and delivered key benefits to their stakeholders. Enabling our customers to better serve their customers is just one example of how we deliver Fleet Intelligence Anywhere.”
