GoGeomatics Social Leader Profile: Aubrey Downie, Calgary

Aubrey Downie first became a part of the GoGeomatics community by being a regular at our socials in Ottawa. He is a professional high-tech worker transitioning into a new career in geography and geomatics after over ten years of working in technical support. His background as a professional high-tech worker proves extremely useful in the geomatics industry as he is able to ensure that the technical side of utilizing computer equipment day-in and day-out is always spot on.

267397dAfter completing his Honours Baccalaureate with a specialization in Geography at the University of Ottawa in 2007 and his postgraduate certificate in Geographical Information Systems at Algonquin College in 2010, where he graduated with honours, Aubrey worked at both Federal Express as a Administrative Officer and at Geodigital as a GIS Technician. Aubrey then decided to pursue other opportunities in the field throughout Canada, eventually relocating to Calgary. In March of 2013 Aubrey was provided with the opportunity to be a GIS Analyst at Integrated Informatics where he creates maps for the installation of pipelines, radio towers and substations using the ESRI platform. GoGeomatics was very excited to be able to continue our connection with Aubrey and offer him the Calgary Group Social Leader position. With knowing that he encompasses the GoGeomatics mantra of connecting the geomatics industry, we are proud to have him as a leader.

“When I first met Aubrey we had two commonalities – one was that we were both in the geomatics industry. Secondly, he had completed the postgraduate program at Algonquin College, and I was just beginning my adventure there. I distinctly remember Aubrey offering me assistance where possible. His genuine offer and positive outlook were so nice to come in contact with. This continues through our email interactions regarding the Calgary social, making it a pleasure for me to reach out to him every time”
